Josh's Reflection

For the big project in Science of life, I think our group worked together all right but there were still definitely aspects that I think we should have focused on more in order to get the most out of our time – while a lot of work was completed, our communication wasn’t the best at the start. Despite this, I feel that each group member brought something to the table which helped our completion of the project whether it be skills in research, compiling information, or presenting it. We have done the work effectively and timely, and each group member was able to do their work well in order for us to complete the project on time.

Personally, I feel that I could have worked on my time management a bit more and spent more time out of hours working on the project. I did put much more out-of-hours work in towards the end of the project especially working on the website - being designated the website builder, this was natural along the project. However, I feel that made up for it by taking a bigger share of the presentation work (we’re building a website that is in an area that I enjoy working in) which I hope will balance out the overall work per member. Apart from that, I like that we were all able to help each other when we were stuck as a group, and I feel that we easily met the deadline for this project due to the work that we have put into it during preparation.

A good aspect of our group dynamic was the broadness of our members and our interests, which I feel really helped us to get multiple perspectives on issues that we discuss. When we were researching specific areas and even when we were speaking with the academics about some questions that we had, the diversity of our perspectives allowed us to get a much more in-depth and interesting idea about how we could propose a solution to our final question.

Going forward, I am grateful that I did this unit because I believe I have improved my group work skills, especially as I didn’t know Cherie or Lavinia before this, and I think we worked together as a group well.

Overall, I think that we worked well and effectively-researched, compiled, and presented our findings as a group, despite the little inconsistencies we faced.
